    The Chui Systems Approach to Medication Safety (SAMS) Lab systematically identifies the underlying reasons for unsafe medication practices. We take an interdisciplinary approach to develop and study interventions that improve patient safety.

    SRC serves as a forum for research and outreach that unites scholars, students, practitioners, funders, and policy makers to combine their collective expertise in the creation of innovative approaches that address issues related to medication use.

    The UIC Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomic Research (CPR) is an interdisciplinary research unit of the UIC College of Pharmacy. The goal of the Center is to conduct and promote impactful collaborative research among investigators involved in pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics comparative-effectiveness and patient-centered outcomes research and to support educating, training, and mentoring of current and future scientists to expand the fields of pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics comparative-effectiveness and patient-centered outcomes research.

  • Peter Kleinschmidt, MD

    Dr. Kleinschmidt is a board-certified physician with a practice in ambulatory and inpatient general medicine. He has collaborated with the Dr. Watterson on multiple grants within the Health IT research portfolio. He is also the Physician Informatics Director for Health IT Safety at UW Health. In this role, he serves on several institutional committees governing the implementation and management of health IT at UW health with a focus on proactive and reactive management of patient safety concerns.

  • Linsey Steege, PhD

    Dr. Steege’s overall research goal is to improve health, safety, and performance of health professionals, and, by doing so, to benefit society by improving healthcare quality. In pursuit of this goal, Dr. Steege leads an interdisciplinary research team studying human factors and ergonomics in healthcare systems; measuring and modeling stress, fatigue, workflow, and performance of health professionals; and improving technology design and integration into healthcare systems.

    Dr. Ford’s research focuses on organizational dissemination, implementation, and sustainability research via mixed methods to expand the use and adoption of evidence-based practices and to improve patient outcomes and quality of care.
